I remember one summer we came to visit mom and she had convinced two of my boys Jonathan an Jordan, that she had made a dirt cake. She had it in the refrigerator in a terracotta pot with flowers in it. The boys thought grandma had lost it. That afternoon she took it out and served it. The boys loved it especially when they came across the gummy worms. Every time we came to visit after that they always begged grandma to make them a dirt cake.

Edith was one of the most loving and giving people I have had the privileged of knowing. She always had a kind word for everyone, and she loved entertaining her family and friends. She was one of the first people to "adopt" me when I first came to Battle Creek. I spent many fun evenings at their house, both on Tony Tiger and on Mason Avenue, playing games and just having fun. Thanks Edith for all the fond memories you gave me over the years.

Mom was visiting us one time a few years ago. I had bought two things of ice cream. I asked her which one and she responded one of each. I thought she meant a scoop of each on a cone so that's what I gave her. She was upset, because she want a cone of each.
