I was one of those 4-H kids that Jim spent so much time mentoring. I can't even begin to count the number of horse shows he pulled my horse and myself to. My family and I were new to showing horses and he so kindly mentored us. Because of his kindness and the impact Jim and 4-H had on me, I am now a 4-H leader and hope I can impact at least one child like he did me.

Last of the Line - Uncle Jim was the last of the Holt family and my last surviving uncle. I will miss him. He was always giving; even when we were all together for Christmas as little kids, he made sure he brought an orange or some other fruit for each of us. His work with children will always be remembered, and I know he and his ponies will be missed at the fair. I remember how much Mom used to love taking dinner down to him. God has blessed everyone Uncle Jim came into contact with, and I pray His blessings on all those grieving his loss. Special prayers go out to Leanor and her family as well. My God grant you peace and comfort.

It's with a heavy heart that I send my deepest sympathy. Jim will always be remembered for his giving nature. The fair and 4-H will never be the same without him there. But he will always be in our hearts and thoughts. May he be the angel to all the ponies in the world. Rest In Peace.

Such a great heart for children and horses. Jim touched countless numbers of lives. I don't think there's a man alive who could fill his shoes. You'll be very much missed, Jim. I can't imagine rounding a corner in the 4H horse barn and not seeing your face. Thanks for helping my children realize their love for horses.

Thank you Jim for being apart of my life and my children's. You will be truly missed by all of us. The stories, the laughs, the good meals, the coloring pictures, the pony rides and so much more. We are so truly grateful for being able to know a man like you. You have touched so many and taken so little. You definitely have contributed your share to our country, our children, and every program you touched, we just don't find people like you anymore! Jim is a mentor of all men and I have never met another that can compare to him. I met Jim over 40 years ago when my oldest daughter entered 4-H and have admired him every since. He didn't know what the word "no" meant and was ALWAYS there when you needed anything! What an inspiration and what a what an example he was for others to see and follow. Yes, you don't see any like Jim anymore, they just don't exist! He was a father to each child he came into contact with, each human he came into contact with. Your age didn't matter he loved you and treated you as his family no matter who you were or what your age was. You will truely be missed Jim. You were so loved and you are so missed at the fairgrounds. It just is not the same with you not there. For those that had the pleasure and wonderful opportunity of knowing you, the Calhoun County Fair Horse barn should be known as The Jim Holt Horse Barn! We will Miss you Jim and will always love you!

Not only did I lose a good friend, but our nation has lost yet another great U.S. Marine. I became friends with the "Pony Guy" a few years ago after our family joined his by marriage. His grandson, Mike mentioned to me that Jim recently lost a pet cat. During that time a kitten showed up on my doorstep, that had been abandoned in the neighborhood. I named him "Big Red" because it was a ginger colored kitten, quite tame, and obviously had been in a home. I took the kitten to Dr. Atma at Pennfield Animal Hospital, who spayed him and gave him the usual vaccines. As the vet knew the kitten was going to have a new home, he provided the services at reduced fees. I then took "Big Red" over to Jim's and he was absolutely ecstatic. He wanted to reimburse me for the minimal costs, but I refused. He did however make a donation to the animal hospital on behalf of his new pet. He also changed the kitten's name to "Spirit," because he said the kitten had improved his own spirits in such a positive way. I made many CPS (Cat Protective Services) visits to Jim's home checking on my placement, but they both loved each other. I know that "Spirit" gave him two years of happiness and contentment. All Jim's horses will be cared for properly, and he asked that "Spirit" be given to a friend who has helped him in these last many months. She too, recently lost a pet, and I know this kitten will now also give her much happiness. Jim Holt was a truly good man who will be missed by all. God Bless, Rest in Peace, & Semper Fi! I remember him with his pony ride. He would enjoy the kids and the kids would love to ride the ponies. He was always happy. I worked at the Elem. schools. He will be missed.

To a great man, our Uncle Jim. So gracious, so kind and so loving. He gave from the heart. Always remember the 4 H's - Head, Heart, Hands and Health. Thanks for all the memories and family times. They don't make too many like Jim Holt! Many children had opportunity to be around horses, be in 4-H, and earn a little extra spending money because of his generosity. Heaven will be a little brighter because of him! You WILL be missed!
